Welcome to Pterodactyl Racing!!
Pterodactyl is a 1989 Evelyn 42, currently rated 27 by PHRF of the Chesapeake....although we hope that will change. But not bad for an old gal!! We bought her from Mark Symonds and Mike Leslie in Grosse Point, Michigan and brought her down to Hampton Roads VA in December 2008. She was very successfully campaigned in the Great Lakes, winning most of the local club races as well as winning the Bayside-Macinac in 2003!! Unfortunately due to Gene's health problems she remained dormant throughout 2009 but will be back in action in 2010!!
Here's a picture of Pterodactyl finishing the HYC Gabboon Race Dec '09 Skippered by our friend Jim Baldwin.
While Gene was still under the weather, Jim brought his whole crew down from Richmond to sail his Evelyn 32-2 Pterobyte for the race. However since she is drysailed and since the launch crane was broken (again!) they couldn't sail!. But being the resourceful skipper he is, Jim called Gene and asked to borrow Pterodactyl for the race. Since Jim was formerly an owner of PteroD in the frigid north and has more time in the boat than Gene or Liz, we said why not! So at least she got to feel a race course once this year!!
Jim's the Owner/Skipper of Pterobyte, a georgeous Evelyn 32-2 and Pterodactyl's little sister . Check out his web site at http://www.pterobyte.us

New Bottom!!
In Late November 2009, the old Interlux VC-17M bottom paint applied in 2008 in Michigan finally wore off so we took Pterodactyl to Ocean Marine in Portsmouth for a new bottom. Steve Grasser and his team did an excellant job of stripping the old bottom, applying 2 new coats of VC-Offshore and burnishing the surface to a shine! Steve is also true to his word and honored his original quote even though they ran a bit over. They also fixed a few dings in the keel caused by a battle with a gill net in early spring. I highly recommend Steve for any work you may need.
